Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, May 27, 2024 Above & Beyond Memorial Day Ceremony to honor veterans will begin at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, at the city of Enid airport hangar, west of the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park and its M.L. Becker Educational Center at Enid Woodring Regional Airport.

The ceremony began with the Wall of Honor in 2000 to commemorate fallen soldiers from Garfield County, and it has since expanded to include those from across the state.

During Monday’s ceremony, Gold Star families of Sgt. Morgan Robinson, Spc. Jaykob Pruitt, Lance Cpl. Merax Dockery and Pfc. Justin Lambillotte will be honored with a blessing from the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society, gift tributes in honor of their loved ones and special tours of the Woodring Wall of Honor, where they can see and take pictures of their loved ones’ names carved onto the monument.

Monday’s keynote speaker is Tom Wozencraft, a Gold Star father, who will share his “Journey to the Stones” and how Enid touched his life after the loss of his son. State, local and military officials will participate in the ceremony.

Gen. Doug Dollar will perform a special presentation to four veterans, and they will be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Honor, a division of the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame. The induction phase debuted last year, and this year’s honorees will be Capt. Gean B. Atkinson, Navy; Dr. Earl Mabry, Air Force and Oklahoma Army National Guard; Sgt. John J. Culbertson, Marine Corps.; and Staff Sgt. Jack Toney, Army.

A special dinner will be provided after the ceremony, and veterans eat for free. Donations from others partaking of the meal help offset the cost of the program, which exceeds $9,000 annually, Johns said.
